Challenge
The customer called us with issues with the master suite and attic to hot in the sumer and to cold in the winter. With a lack of heat and A/C in the mater suite. Upon inspection the master suite was an addition that was put on before the current home owners. The roof line was insulated to building code but not enough to live in the room. Home owners told DES O'Donnell they could only use the master suite 4 months out of the year. The master suite also had a knee wall and attic access. On the day of the inspection roof shingles were 158 degrees and the dry wall in the bedroom was 127 degrees.
Solution
The products we used to correct the problem were, cellulose, Silver Glo, and spray foam. How the products work are, the cellulose was added to the roof deck insulation by dense packing all rafters. Once insulation was added the dry wall in the bedroom was at 80 degrees. The day the work was completed the outside temp was 100 degrees and the roof deck was 160 degrees. Attic storage area also needed work Silver Glo has radiant barrier on both sides which help with heat transfers. The solutions used were the best options for the customers because it allows them to use their master suite 12 months out of the year, it also gives them a temp controlled storage area for personal and valuable items. The end result being a happy and comfortable home owner.
